What is Diving in Cabo Pulmo?
A few years ago, Cabo Pulmo wasn´t known as the important diving destination that is today, so we feel the need to explain to our followers what Cabo Pulmo is about when it comes to Scuba Diving.
There are only three coral reefs on the west coast of North America. Cabo Pulmo is the location of the northernmost coral reef in the eastern Pacific. It is the oldest coral reef and is estimated to be 20,000 years old.
The reef has a number of fingers of hard coral occurring in progressively deeper water offshore.
On June 15, 1995, the area surrounding Cabo Pulmo was declared a National Marine Park.
Since then, the fish population and the reef health have been getting bigger and better.
The schools of fish are impressive even for the most experienced and travelled diver.
David Valencia, our guest photographer in September, is someone that became a Cabo Pulmo “believer” after the dives he made here with us, at Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort.
Dave, is a very well known underwater photographer worldwide.
Another of his photos was selected as the main image of the Project Aware campaign (you remember the one with the Whale Shark being liberated?? Well… that´s it).
During his visits to Cabo Pulmo this season, Dave had the chance to capture the magnificence of the Big Eyes Trevallys schooling in our beloved Cabo Pulmo National Park reef, along with uncountable other species during his dives.
Cabo Pulmo is very well known for its reef, sharks, rays and fishes, but the Big Eyes Trevallys schooling in massive numbers, are the stars of the seasons, and the main attraction for underwater videographer and photographer from all over the world.
After watching Dave´s work on the schools, you can appreciate why.
This is an underwater paradise, no doubt. One of the few places in the world where you can meet the past the present and the future of the oceans if we decide to take care of them, a unique Aquarium in the world, or as they say, “The Aquarium of the World”.
Now the question is, when are you coming to enjoy it with Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort, the only PADi Divecenter and PADI 5 Star Resort in the area??
Or visit our website www.cabopulmo.com to know about our diving packages and specials of the month.
We are proud to present the new Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort video, and invite you to come visit us for the best underwater experience of your life in Cabo Pulmo.
A few days ago we released our new institutional video promoting Cabo Pulmo as the great diving destination that it is, and Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort as the only PADI dive center and PADI 5 Star Resort in the area.
This 5 minute video is NOT just another video of Cabo Pulmo - NOT AT ALL! This video was designed to show the magnificence of life in Cabo Pulmo and how Cabo Pulmo is truly a very special place.
Our Resort (Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort) does nothing but add professionalism, safety and incredible service so you have the best experience in Cabo Pulmo you possibly can.
You will see in this video that Cabo Pulmo National Park offers a unique underwater environment full of healthy corals, endless schools of fishes, rays, turtles, whales, sharkes, sea lions, and pristine waters in the season.
This video was done in 3 days of consecutive underwater shooting back in September. Some final shots were done back in November in one diving day. So this incredible 5 minutes of underwater shooting compresses 4 days of diving in Cabo Pulmo National Park with Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort.
Erick Higuera was our videographer and final editor of this video. This was by no means a casual endeavor. When we decided to make this short video, we imagined it through Erick's eyes. We know the passion he feels for his job, and knew we would love the video he would create. We simply couldn't imagine a better way to show Cabo Pulmo's underwater beauty than through Erick's eyes.
So, as I said before, this is not just another video of Cabo Pulmo. This is a film testimony that when things are done right, life takes over again. We just need to protect our oceans in the same way we've been protecting our little paradise here in Cabo Pulmo National Park, and we will eventually have healthy corals and sea life everywhere.
In the mean time, Cabo Pulmo is an open window to see how oceans were in the past, and how they can recover. Cabo Pulmo's beauty and abundance of life could be our future if we decide to take action and protect our oceans.
In our video, you have the opportunity to view incredible schools of Bigeye Trevallis, Panamic Pork Fish, Burrito Grunts, Graybar Grunts, Pacific Dog Snappers, Amarillo Snappers, Leopard Groupers, Gulf Groupers, Diamond Stingrays, Bat Rays, Guineanfoul Puffer Fish, Surgeon Fishes, Tiger Groupers, Parrot Fish and Sea Turtles.
These 5 minutes say more than a million words possibly can. We are proud to present the new Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort video, and invite you to come and visit us so you can have the best underwater experience of your life in Cabo Pulmo.

Who is ready for a break?
I know I am! I want to feel the sun shining on my face while I dig my toes into damp cool sand and sip on a frosty drink. Seriously, I am ready!
I love Cabo Pulmo. I first went there in the 90's on a dive trip. The diving was great, and this was before Cabo Pulmo became a National Marine Park.
'We are a Padi 5 Star Resort located in Cabo Pulmo, Baja California Sur, Mexico, directly in front of the national Marine Park. We have Baja's best diving and snorkeling with exceptional service to the customers."
If you like to visit 'less traveled' places, then Cabo Pulmo is for you. It is definetly off the beaten path. I prefer to be able to rest peacefully on the beach, with the sun on my face, my feet in the sand and hand around a frosty drink! And having a place right on the beach, well that is just icing on the cake.
"Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort is a small rustic romantic getaway village of Palm-thatched bungalows that are located right in front of the National Marine Park of Cabo Pulmo just 60 miles up the Sea of Cortez on the gulf side. Most of the bungalows host a simple open floor plan modern in style but rustic in nature. Most casitas and bungalows offer a nice functional kitchen for cooking and some offer BBQ's and are Solar powered."
A hike, a bike ride, oh to have the time to do the things I love! Time to indulge myself is a vacation perk! Cabo Pulm has some impressive hiking and biking trails. You don't have to worry about bringing a bike, the Resort rents them. Perfect way to spend a morning. Or a sunset hike. In my mind I am already doing it. Then I am going to the beach to feel the sun on my face, put my feet in the sand and sip a frosty drink. (It's a constant theme in my vacation dreams)
"If you want to get your heart pumping quickly, try the Cabo Pulmo mountain hike; it goes all the way to the top of the tallest mountain behind Cabo Pulmo. The views are incredible and in winter months when humpback whales are around, you can see them breaching off shore. To get to the mountain hike, walk the new road that's been built part way up the mountain. At the end of the road, climb the ridge to the top. There's really no "trail" but you can see where others have preceded. This hike is not for the out-of-shape or the faint-of-heart as parts of the upper reaches are steep."
If you are ready for a break, give Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort a call! We would love to see you.
Do you plan a vacation months in advance? The kind of vacation where you spend days trying to figure out what art gallery you will be visiting on Monday, what museum you will go to on Tuesday, who you have to meet up with on Wednesday, how many dresses do you need to bring, how many pairs of slacks, is it going to be cold, is it going to be hot, do you need casual clothes, how much money should you bring, did you save enough, should you bring the babysitter? etc...etc...etc...
I want to go on a vacation that is truly a vacation, one where I get to relax, watch the kids play in the sand, read a book, have a beer, snorkel if I feel like it, hike if I feel like it, maybe even throw in a dive or a surf trip. I certainly don't want to feel like I HAVE to do anything I don't want to do. I mean really, it's a vacation right?
Picture this; you start your vacation out by sitting on your bed wondering which backpack to bring, you know you don't actually need luggage, you only need to pack a couple of bikini's, some trunks, flip flops, t-shirts, and maybe a sarong or two. in fact, thats all the kids need as well, so they can easily pack and carry their own backpacks (thats enough to make me relax already). You know when you arrive there will be nice beds to sleep in, good food and cold beers at the restaurant, and plenty of relax time. Ok, so what more will you need..... Oh, a plane ticket and your off!
Visiting Cabo Pulmo is like visiting a slow miracle. Everyone there is relaxed, they smell of sunscreen, salt and hot sun, they walk slow and smile big. The air is warm and
clean, the palm fronds knock together softly in the wind and the sweet little tropical birds are singing a happy song. Your heart immediately relaxes, your shoulders drop away from your ears, you smile, you are in Cabo Pulmo.
Marine life at Cabo Pulmo National Park near the southern tip of Baja California increased by 463 percent between 1999 and 2009
Diving in Cabo Pulmo is of the best in the world! Many professional dive travelers have witnessed this. Cabo Pulmo Dive Center is a Five Star PADI RESORT that offers all of the professional diving and snorkeling services. We have full time PADI Instructors that lead the dives and snorkel excursions each day as well as guide you toward further certifications.
Cabo Pulmo National Park was protected in 1995 to safeguard the largest coral reef in the Gulf of California. The area is home to an amazing reef system and is crucial to the feeding and breeding of an estimated 6000 species. The reef is the northern-most coral reef in the eastern Pacific and is one of only three coral reefs on the west coast of North America.
After Mexican President Zedillo declared the National Marine Park, the people of Cabo Pulmo organized a conservation group to promote the conservation of the natural resources of the park.
Cabo Pulmo's reef is now the only healthy reef left in the Gulf of California. It continues to attract divers from around the world. And fishermen, too, as the waters surrounding the park are filled with spillover fish from the marine reserve.
Cabo Pulmo is a quiet village that has no salesmen or trinket sales on the beaches to bother you, no TV (except in the bar if requested), no daily maid service (unless requested), no paragliders or noisy jet-skis either; it's against Park Rules. You can walk for miles on the beach and not see anyone at times. We generally have an unspoken curfew of 10:00pm when the Restaurant and the Bar closes.

PADI Open Water Diver Course - More Info
|What does it cover?
The PADI Open Water Diver course is, by far, the world's most popular scuba certification course. Millions of people have started diving as certified PADI Open Water Divers. Learning to scuba dive requires both knowledge development (facts, principles, concepts) and dive skills (techniques, methods). The PADI Open Water Diver Course online provides the knowledge development portion you need. You develop the remaining skills by actually diving with a PADI Instructor at your local PADI Dive Center or Resort.
What are the PADI Open Water Diver course prerequisites?
To be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, you need to be at least 12 years old*, fit for diving, and able to swim. To be able to participate in the PADI eLearning Open Water online program, you simply need to be at least 10 years old.
*In some regions the minimum age is higher.
How does it work?
After enrolling, PADI's eLearning® system presents you with interactive presentations that include videos, audio, graphics and reading. Short quizzes let you gauge your progress, and review and correct anything you might happen to miss. This lets you move through the program efficiently and at your own pace.
What else is required to complete the course?
Prior to certification as a PADI Open Water Diver, you'll visit your PADI Dive Center or Resort to complete your training. You'll take a short eLearning Quick Review to confirm your understanding of safety-related material from the course, and you must successfully complete five confined water dives and four open water training dives with your PADI Instructor. You learn and master each of the required skills in confined water (swimming pool-like conditions) first before moving on and showing your instructor that you can comfortably repeat those skills in open water. As a PADI Open Water Diver, you will be a certified entry-level diver able to rent dive gear, get air fills and dive anywhere in the world in better or similar conditions to those you've trained in.
What does it cost?
The PADI Open Water Diver Course online is $130 (US) nonrefundable. The fee covers your knowledge development training and gives you unlimited access to an electronic version of the PADI Open Water Diver Manual (course textbook). Your PADI Dive Center or Resort will charge an additional fee for the inwater portion of your certification. You may also need to purchase a mask, snorkel, pair of fins and other personal dive equipment. Your PADI Dive Center or Resort will help you choose equipment suited to your needs. You'll also need a Recreational Dive Planner (Table or eRDP version) or the How to Use and Choose Dive Computers manual and a log book. Contact your dive center for all of these things and to find out the total course cost.
How long do you have to complete the eLearning course?
The eLearning course will be available for one year from the time of course registration. Though you must finish the online portion of the course within that time frame, you will have perpetual access to an online version of the PADI Open Water Diver manual.
What is the minimum amount of time it will take to complete this eLearning program?
The PADI Open Water Diver Course online will take approximately 12-15 hours to complete.
How do you document that you've completed the eLearning segment?
Once you finish the eLearning portion of the course, your dive center is notified that you have completed it and that you are ready for the practical phase of the program. At the end of the eLearning program, you can print out your eRecord and bring a copy of it with you to your selected PADI Dive Center or Resort.
