Marine Life Increases by 463% in Cabo Pulmo

So, I was reading this article the other day and was simply amazed by what it was saying about Cabo Pulmo.  It was talking about the fact that marine life has increased by 463%!!  Wow, 463%?? Really?!?

biomas

I mean I have seen a huge increase myself on my diving expeditions (I took the above picture just the other day) I knew that there was an incredible increase in biomass, but didn’t truly grasp the extent of it.

Just look at what the article I read in “Sign On San Diego News” had to say…

“Marine life at Cabo Pulmo National Park near the southern tip of Baja California increased by 463 percent between 1999 and 2009, according to a new study led by researchers at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography”.

“Fish recovery at Cabo Pulmo National Park was so extensive that researchers said it looked like areas of the Pacific Ocean that have never been fished. — Octavio Aburto-Oropeza”

That’s just the beginning of the article, click here to read the rest of it.

I’m blogging about this because if any of you out there are divers or snorkelers now is the time to plan a trip to Cabo Pulmo.

If you have even had a small thought about learning to dive, go down to Cabo Pulmo and do it now.  If snorkeling is the way you want to go, great!  We got ya covered, do it now, you will not regret it.  Diving and snorkeling just doesn’t get any better than this!

I've been visiting Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort since 2000 and, I am pleased to report that it is better now than ever! Managers, Rick Harbeck and Getse Rojas, have done wonders with the Dive Center and Resort, respectively, running both efficiently, yet maintaining a friendly and fun atmosphere. Both bent over backwards to give us a great all-around experience and were determined to make everything right for us. And right it was: The diving was spectacular with100 feet of viz in 87 degree water! The food at the Coral Reef Restaurant, upstairs from the Dive Center, served delicious food and tasty, refreshing drinks, just right after a day of diving in "the aquarium of the world," as Jacques Cousteau aptly described Cabo Pulmo, a marine preserve that gratefully has remained unspoiled. Also, the accommodations were wonderful: A beautiful beach house with plenty of fans and a very cool outdoor shower, just steps from the ocean. We caught the afternoon breeze from the terrace during our Happy Hours and, later, marvelled at the night sky bejeweled by millions of stars. We cannot recommend Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort highly enough! Congratulations to Rick Harbeck, Getse Rojas, and their wonderful staff for doing such a great job! We can't wait to return! Stuart E.

Took my son and daughter on their first dives here. The crew was great- instructor was personable, engaged, and very competent (cute, too). After 15-20 minute pool intro, spent almost 1 hour at 40' and had a wonderful time. Well worth the drive, money, and time.
